ABOUT BUGEMBE SAMUEL (BLAC-MAN)

                  Bugembe Samuel (Blac-man)

I transform plastic waste into durable construction materials while training young people in Uganda to earn a living through recycling and practical art skills.
I am a Ugandan visual artist, skills trainer, and recycling innovator working at the intersection of creativity, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment. My work focuses on turning plastic waste—especially polythene—into useful products such as pavers and construction materials, while equipping young people with hands-on skills for income generation.

My Journey
My journey into plastic recycling began after witnessing the growing problem of plastic waste in our communities—blocked drainage systems, polluted spaces, and limited opportunities for young people. Instead of seeing waste as a problem, I saw an opportunity to create solutions that are both artistic and practical.
Through this work, I have been able to engage and train youth in transforming waste into valuable products, helping them develop skills that can generate income and improve their livelihoods.

What I Do
*Train youth in practical art and craft skills
*Teach detergent and cosmetics production and other income-generating skills
*Recycle plastic waste into pavers and other construction materials
*Lead community-based projects focused on environmental sustainability
*Promote creative innovation through Blac Arts Ug.
*Produce publications both online and physical books on skills training and plastics.

Impact
My work is centered on creating real, measurable change by:
*Reducing plastic waste in communities
*Providing hands-on skills training for young people
*Supporting income generation through creative and industrial art
*Promoting sustainable and affordable building alternatives...

number of youths trained = 590 youth(3 years time)
amount of plastic recycled = 4500 tonnes of plastics (3 years)
products made =900 pavers, 440 bricks ( recycled plastic)

Vision
I envision to build a community where waste is seen as a resource, young people are empowered with practical skills, and art becomes a tool for both economic and environmental transformation.

Work & Collaboration
I work with community groups, organizations, and initiatives to deliver training and develop sustainable solutions through Skilling, art and recycling.
I am open to partnerships, training opportunities, and collaborative projects that focus on youth empowerment, environmental conservation, and creative innovation.
